What role do the life sciences and the psy sciences play in changing conceptions of human identity?

Nikolas Rose is Co-director of the Centre for Synthetic Biology and Innovation (CSynBI), a major collaboration between King’s and Imperial Colleges, London. The Centre exists to develop world-leading research and to build UK capacity in the emerging field of synthetic biology. Rose considers the field in terms of its implications for humanity: social; political; legal; economic and ethical. He is a former Director of the BIOS Centre for the Study of Bioscience, Biomedicine, Biotechnology and Society at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

From 2007-2010, Rose was funded by the ESRC to undertake a Professorial Research Fellowship on neuroscience and neurotechnologies (Brain, Self & Society). He is the former Chair of the European Neuroscience and Society Network, funded by the European Science Foundation. At Goldsmiths, he was Pro-Warden for Research and Head of the Goldsmiths Centre for Urban and Community Research (CUCR). He founded the History of the Present Research Network, an international network  influenced by the writings of Michel Foucault.
